KEY STAGE 3

Key Stage 3 is the legal term for the first three years of secondary school education in the UK, normally known as Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9, for pupils aged 11 to 14.

At T.C.U.K Homeschooling, we provide a fully comprehensive 'secondary high school' level education covering the same material as taught in public and private schools following the latest requirements of the UK National Curriculum.

Some parents may not wish for their child to study certain aspects of the national curriculum, hence, our tutors will ensure to filter those sections out for your child. The parents are in full control and are able to 'pick and choose' which topics your child should cover or not cover.

GCSEs - Level 1 and 2

GCSEs - General Certificate of Education

GCSE is an internationally recognised qualification taken by 15 and 16 year olds in Year 10 and 11, awarded in a specified subject, generally taken in a number of subjects by pupils in secondary education in England over 2 years (3 years in certain schools).

At T.C.U.K Home Schooling, we start GCSEs in year 9, giving students 3 years; ample time to study their chosen GCSE subjects and a higher chance of attaining outstanding GCSE grades. GCSEs are currently graded 9-1 or A*-G.

At present, in certain subjects our exams are two-tier (level), so pupils can be entered for the higher or foundation tier exams with their final grade being determined by the tier. For example, at foundation level a Grade 5 (previously a grade C) may be the maximum, whereas at higher level a Grade 9 (A*) is the highest result obtainable.

How important are your GCSE grades?

In short, your GCSE grades will shape your next few steps in education. Having good grades in GCSEs will increase your career options,

GCSE grades can influence your A-levels, which college or university you go to, and also what career path you take.

Entry requirements for A-levels at colleges and sixth forms vary – expecting four to five GCSE grade Cs, with perhaps Bs in the subjects you want to study, through to at least six As for the most selective colleges.

Your GCSE performance is usually a good indicator of how well you’ll do in A-level or other advanced studies – in fact, it’s the only real hard-and-fast evidence of your academic abilities a college has to go on. Many sixth forms use a scoring system, based on GCSE grades, to predict how well you’re likely to do.

How important are GCSEs in getting a job?

Most employers expect people to have good maths and English GCSEs and without this, it can be hard to get your foot in the door. In fact, this is so important that students who don’t get a grade C or above in these subjects now have to carry on studying them until they are 18.

If you’re applying for your first job, employers will look at your most recent qualifications: that being your GCSE qualification.

The majority of universities check your GCSE grades

You may need at least Cs in GCSE English, maths and science depending on your course. Some university courses go a step further and ask for specific subjects at GCSE, with certain grades.

How we can help?

With smaller class sizes compared to public schools, T.C.U.K Home Schooling students receive more attention and our tutors are able to focus more on individual attainment, thus, our students excel in their GCSEs attaining outstanding results!
